Great interview.
I have to admit, I’m not a fan of magic-based characters for exactly the reasons you describe. But you’ve reasoned me out of my doubts and into the comic store to buy a copy.

My mother always said I should’ve been a lawyer.
I really do think you’ll enjoy this book, Greg.

That seemed like everything a potential reader could want in a writer interview. The description of your approach to the character was really lucid and persuasive…and the stuff about your health doesn’t come across as crass or sensationalistic, but instead helps people see why communicating big ideas in your work would matter so much to you. The overwhelmingly positive comments the piece is getting demonstrate that this was just the right sort of presentation to generate interest in the book.
Bonus points for the Audie Murphy analogy: when I read that, something about your vision of the character really clicked into place for me.

Great interview. As allways I totally disagree with you about the religion stuff (I’m a christian myself, but don’t fit into the usuall categories) but find it very interesting as well and I also think that you …how should I put it… touch the truth a bit more than many chrisitans usually do.
So, now it’s only a few hours untill the book will be out and since it takes some time to reach me here in germany I won’t be back to this blog untill I have read it.

One other thing regarding Dr. Fate: Did you know that the Tower of Fate was featured in last weeks Black Adam: Dark Age #2?
And one other thing about you: Where have the ads to your older stuff on Amazon gone? I was about to figure out how I can buy them via amazon.de (germany) in such a way that you do get some money from that. (don’t know if that even is possible)

Great interview. I’m looking forward to seeing your approach to Doctor Fate. Actually, I’m really looking forward to the new Inza’s first appearance more, if you can believe that!!
I was always a sucker for redheads. 😀
But I digress.

“I should be clear here: the helmet is not a living thing itself. It doesn’t possess a consciousness of its own. It’s drawn to sympathetic vibrations, as it were, from other entities. It’s sort of seeking – more in the sense of a natural force than an intelligence – a compatible entity to bond with…”
Does whatever knows fear burn at the helmet’s touch?
Seriously, Dr. Fate sounds great, Steve.
