Say something once, why say it again?
By the way, didn’t know if you were aware, David Byrne has a pretty interesting blog. Lots of travel stuff, bicycle activism, performance art news, etc.

I keep singing them sad sad songs, ya all
Sad songs is all I know
I keep singing them sad sad songs, ya all Sad songs is all I know
It has a sweet melody tonight
Anybody can sing it any old time
What in your heart puts you in a groove
And when you sing this song
It’ll make you’re whole body move
(What, it wasn’t Otis Redding’s “Sad Song”?)

I am a dull and simple lad
Can not tell water from champagne
And I have never met the queen
And I wish I could have all that he has got
I wish I could be like David Watts

Huh…before I read these other comments, I was sure this was the part where I was supposed to wish I could be like David Watts.

I was just thinking about this song last night. I saw some doc on MTV about NYC in 1977, and they kept playing it whenever they’d cut to a Son of Sam update. I actually thought to myself that there was nothing that expresses the 70s quite as well as Howard the Duck… even Colans art makes me think of the 70s. I actually think a Howard the Duck movie could actually work if it was set in the 70s (and a damn faithful adaptation, naturally).
It’s odd, I get the same feel about the early 90s from Foolkiller… something about it really captures the feel of those ego-fueled days after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Gulf War… makes me remember when Bush Sr. was at 93%, and the company was going bankrupt paying for Bush’s S&L buddies.

Lame response: “You are Atrios, and I claim my five pounds!”
Lamer response: “F.A.? Sweet F.A.?” “Have we met?” “Only conceptually! But I’m a big fan!” (stolen from Garry Trudeau)

Either “Better run run run run run run run away…” or “A long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long way to run.”
Both involve running.

Wait.

“You have one more word. Shall I add another ‘fa’?”
“No, that wouldn’t make sense.”

“Fa loves Pa” — name the movie. (It took place in the 70s)
August 15th, 2007 at 4:34 PM
It was Otis Redding — and others who’ve felt it from time to time.
(Beth: I know the answer to your question, but I had to cheat. Let’s see if anyone else comes up with it.)

[taps microphone]
Gerard de Nerval once said “They know the secrets of the sea and do not bark.” He was talking about lobsters, but let us not hold that against him. Dolphins know the depth of the ocean; the height of the sky, hard to say. Dolphins actually humanspeak through their blowholes: their mouths are unconnected to their lungs, and are shown moving in movies only for the sake of not explaining. The phrase “Flipper, faster than lightning” was coined by Mrs Flipper. Thank you and good night.
